Finding space both physically & emotionally!
My son Sam has always been a great inspiration for me and my work. When he was little, he was dragged around rehearsal rooms and told to sit quietly while I directed show after show. He was an absolute little angel and would sit for hours observing rehearsals and workshops. I always told him that each show was created for him (and only him) so he realised how special a gift theatre was. He’s now 30 years old and still supports all my work & still believes that everything I create is for him…sweet!
Two years ago he decided it was time to indulge in ‘Adulting’ and so has a flat near his office…but he still maintained a bedroom at our home in Sai Kung. Several months ago, I broached the idea with him of giving up his space and letting me use it as an art room…after a little cajoling & promises that the spare room bed was more comfortable he acquiesced. Within a few days I’d donated the beds to a charity, ordered big worktables online, boxed up all his books and childhood belongings & replaced them with art materials & a sewing machine called ‘Temperance’!
This gave me the space both physically & emotionally that I needed to create ‘CRAFTY BITCH’.
